URL Parser
How to use URL Encoder/Decoder
Paste text or a URL
Enter a value to encode, or an encoded string to decode. Results update instantly.
Inspect the URL
The URL parser splits a link into protocol, host, path, query parameters and fragment.
Edit and copy
Change query parameters in the table and copy the rebuilt, correctly encoded URL.
How to URL encode and decode text
URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, ampersands, accents and emoji must be percent-encoded (a space becomes %20, for example). URL Encoder/Decoder converts values in both directions and includes a parser that breaks any URL into editable parts.
What gets encoded
Encoding works like JavaScript's encodeURIComponent. Characters with a special meaning in URLs, such as spaces, &, =, ?, / and #, and anything outside basic ASCII are converted to a percent sign followed by their UTF-8 bytes in hexadecimal. So & becomes %26, = becomes %3D and é becomes %C3%A9. Letters, digits and - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ) are left as they are.
When you need it
Typical situations where encoding matters:
- Putting user input, such as a search term, into a query string.
- Passing one URL inside another, for example a redirect or callback parameter.
- Reading tracking links and log entries that are full of %20 and %3D.
- Debugging API requests that fail because of an unescaped & or #.
The URL parser
Paste a full link to see its protocol, host, path, query parameters and fragment separately. Each query parameter appears in an editable table, and the reconstructed URL updates as you change values, with encoding handled for you. Everything runs in your browser.
