How to use CSV to JSON

  1. Add your CSV

Paste CSV data or open a .csv file. The delimiter is detected automatically.

  2. Choose the JSON shape

Array of objects (headers become keys), array of arrays, or nested JSON from dot-notation headers.

  3. Copy or download

Check the preview table, then copy the JSON or download it as a .json file.

How to convert CSV to JSON

Spreadsheets export CSV, but APIs, JavaScript apps and NoSQL databases want JSON. CSV to JSON converts between them in your browser, handling quoted values, different delimiters and header rows, so you can go from an Excel export to usable data in seconds.

Three output shapes

Choose the structure your code expects:

  • Array of objects: each row becomes an object keyed by the header row, such as [{"name": "Ada", "age": "36"}]. The most common choice.
  • Array of arrays: raw rows without keys, useful for charts and table libraries.
  • Nested JSON: headers written with dots, like address.city, become nested objects.

Delimiters and quoting

Auto-detection handles most files, and you can pick comma, semicolon, tab or pipe manually. Semicolons are common in CSVs exported from Excel in countries that use a comma as the decimal separator. Values containing the delimiter, quotes or line breaks must be wrapped in double quotes, which the parser understands.

Size and privacy

Parsing uses PapaParse, a fast and well-tested CSV library, entirely in your browser. Files up to about 20 MB work comfortably on most devices, and your data is never uploaded. Need to go the other way? Use JSON to CSV.
