How to convert units of measurement
Recipes in cups, room sizes in square feet, speed limits in miles per hour, file sizes in gigabytes: everyday life is full of units that do not match the ones you think in. Unit Converter covers seven common categories and shows every conversion at once.
Categories covered
Seven categories, each with metric and imperial or US units:
- Length: micrometers to miles and nautical miles, including inches, feet and yards.

- Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin.

Temperature is different
Most units convert by multiplying by a fixed factor, but temperature scales have different zero points, so they need formulas. Fahrenheit is Celsius times 9/5 plus 32, and Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15. The converter applies these properly, so 100 degrees Celsius correctly becomes 212 degrees Fahrenheit.
