The Central Teacher Eligibility Test asks for only two files: a scanned photograph and a scanned signature. Both are mandatory, both must be JPG or JPEG, and each has a minimum and a maximum size. The photograph is also checked against you on exam day, so it has to be recent and clearly yours.
Below are the exact limits from the official CTET Information Bulletin, and a quick way to make both files on your own device. The tools linked here run in your browser, so your photo and signature are not uploaded anywhere until you upload them to the CTET portal yourself.

The official upload limits
These come from the CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin published by CBSE on ctet.nic.in (read on 13 October 2026). CTET is held more than once a year and every edition has its own bulletin, so check the one for your session before you apply.
- Format: JPG or JPEG for both files.
- Photograph: between 10 KB and 100 KB, image dimension 3.5 cm wide x 4.5 cm high.
- Signature: between 3 KB and 30 KB, image dimension 3.5 cm long x 1.5 cm high.
- The photograph must be your latest one, because it is matched with you at the exam centre.
What the cm sizes mean in pixels
The bulletin gives the size in centimetres, which describes the shape of the picture more than an exact pixel count. What matters is the proportion: the photo is taller than it is wide, in a 3.5 to 4.5 ratio, and the signature is a long strip, 3.5 to 1.5.
A photo of about 350 x 450 pixels and a signature of about 350 x 150 pixels have exactly those proportions, look sharp on screen and fit easily under the KB limits. If you prefer to think in print terms, those numbers are the cm sizes at roughly 254 DPI.
Step by step: the photograph
Take or pick a recent photo
Use a recent colour photo with your face clearly visible against a plain light background. If your phone saved it as HEIC, convert it first with HEIC to JPG.
Crop to passport shape
Open Crop Image, choose Freeform and crop from just above your hair to your shoulders, keeping the frame taller than it is wide.
Resize to 350 x 450 pixels
In Resize Image, untick the aspect lock if needed and set 350 x 450 pixels so the photo matches the 3.5 x 4.5 cm proportion.
Bring it under 100 KB
Open Compress to 100 KB. It keeps the best JPG quality that fits; tick the minimum box and enter 10 so the photo never drops below 10 KB.
Step by step: the signature
Sign on plain white paper
Use a dark pen so the strokes stay visible after compression, and sign the way you will sign at the exam centre.
Crop tightly and resize
Photograph it flat in daylight, crop close around the signature with Crop Image, then resize it to about 350 x 150 pixels with Resize Image.
Fit it between 3 and 30 KB
Open Compress Image set to 30 KB with a 3 KB minimum and download the result. Check it at full size before you upload it.
Common reasons uploads fail
- An old photo that no longer looks like you, which causes trouble at the exam centre even if the upload worked.
- A PNG or HEIC file instead of JPG.
- A full page photo of the signature, which is too large and makes the strokes tiny once resized.
- A photo squashed into the wrong shape because the aspect lock was left on while typing new dimensions.
- Photo and signature uploaded in each other's place.
Frequently asked questions
What is the CTET photo size in KB?
Between 10 KB and 100 KB, in JPG or JPEG format, with an image dimension of 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm high, according to the CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin.
What is the CTET signature size?
Between 3 KB and 30 KB, in JPG or JPEG format, with an image dimension of 3.5 cm long by 1.5 cm high.
How many pixels is 3.5 x 4.5 cm?
It depends on resolution; the bulletin does not fix a pixel count. 350 x 450 pixels has the right proportion and a sharp result, and fits under 100 KB easily.
Can I use the same photo as my last CTET?
Only if it is still recent and looks like you today. The photo is matched with the candidate at the exam centre, so an old one can cause problems on the day.
Are my photo and signature uploaded when I use these tools?
No. Crop, Resize and Compress Image run in your browser, so the files stay on your device until you upload them to the CTET portal.
