How to crop an image online

Cropping removes distracting edges, straightens the focus onto your subject, and fits a picture into the exact shape a website or social network expects. Crop Image lets you draw the area you want to keep and saves only that part, right in your browser.

Aspect ratio presets

Lock the crop box to a standard shape:

  • 1:1 for profile pictures, avatars and square posts.
  • 4:3 for classic photo prints and presentations.
  • 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, banners and widescreen slides.
  • 3:2 for the native shape of most camera sensors.
  • Freeform when you just want to trim the edges.

Cropping on a phone or tablet

The crop area responds to touch as well as the mouse, so you can drag and resize it with your finger. Everything runs in the browser, so there is no app to install.

Tips for better crops

Leave a little breathing room around faces and products rather than cutting tight to the edge. Place the subject on an imaginary third of the frame for a more balanced composition. If the platform also needs exact pixel dimensions, follow up with Resize Image.

Crop before you compress

Cropping removes pixels you do not need, which also makes the file smaller. For the lightest image, crop first, then resize to the display size with Resize Image, then fine-tune the file size with Compress Image. Your original file is never changed; you always download a new copy.
