Upload an image to remove its background
Up to 20MB
Choose fileNote: First use downloads an AI model (~40 MB). It is cached in your browser for subsequent uses. Processing runs entirely in your browser. Images never leave your device.
How to use Remove Background
Add your photo
Drop a JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MB. It is processed on your device.
Let the AI work
A background-removal model runs in your browser. The first time, it downloads once (about 40 MB) and is then cached.
Download the PNG
Get a transparent PNG of your subject, ready for a new background.
How to remove the background from an image
Cutting out a subject used to take careful work in Photoshop. Remove Background does it automatically with an AI model that detects people, products and animals and makes everything else transparent. Unlike most online removers, the model runs inside your browser, so your photo is never uploaded.
What it is good for
Transparent cut-outs are useful for:
- Product photos on a clean white or colored background for online shops.
- Profile pictures and ID-style photos.
- Stickers, thumbnails, collages and presentation graphics.
- Placing yourself or an object onto a different scene.
Getting a clean result
The AI works best when the subject is clearly separated from the background, is in focus and is reasonably well lit. Fine hair and fur against a busy background are the hardest cases; a plain wall behind the subject helps a lot. The result is always a PNG, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Why the first run is slower
The model (about 40 MB) is downloaded the first time you use the tool and then cached by your browser, so later images are processed much faster. The processing itself uses WebAssembly on your device, which is why no image ever needs to leave it.
