How to create a QR code for free
QR codes connect paper to the web: menus, posters, business cards, product packaging and event tickets. QR Code Generator creates a standard, static QR code in your browser. It encodes your content directly, so it never expires and does not depend on any redirect service.
What you can encode
Anything text-based up to roughly 4,000 characters: website links, plain text, email addresses, phone numbers, and Wi-Fi network details. Shorter content produces a simpler code that scans faster from further away, so use a short URL when you can.
Error correction levels
Error correction lets a code scan even when part of it is damaged or covered:
- L: recovers about 7 percent. Smallest, simplest code.
- M: about 15 percent. A good default.
- Q: about 25 percent. Good for printed codes that may get scuffed.
- H: about 30 percent. Best if you plan to put a logo over the middle.
Colors and printing
Any colors work as long as there is strong contrast: a dark code on a light background scans most reliably, and inverted codes (light on dark) confuse some scanners. For print, download the SVG, which stays perfectly sharp at any size. Always test-scan with a phone before printing a batch.
Static, so it never expires
Many QR services create codes that point to their own redirect and stop working if you stop paying. Codes made here contain your content directly and work forever. The trade-off is that you cannot change the destination later, so double-check the link.
