A 40-page contract when you only need the signature page, a bank statement when the landlord asked for one month, a course pack when you want chapter three: pulling pages out of a PDF is one of the most common file jobs, and it should not need paid software.
Extracting pages creates a new PDF that contains only the pages you pick. Your original file is not changed, and nothing is uploaded, because the whole job runs in your browser.
Step by step: save one page
Open Split PDF
Drop the file into Split PDF. Every page appears as a thumbnail, so you can see exactly what you are picking.
Select the page
Click the thumbnail of the page you want. To pick several, click each one, or switch to range mode and type something like 3, or 1-2, 5, 9-12.
Download the new PDF
You get one PDF containing only the selected pages, in their original order.
Three ways to split
Split PDF has three modes, depending on what you need:
- Pick pages visually by clicking thumbnails. Best for a handful of pages.
- Type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-10. Best for long documents when you know the page numbers.
- Split every N pages to cut a long file into equal parts, downloaded together as a ZIP. Set N to 1 to save every page as its own PDF.
Pages from several files
If you need pages from different documents in one file, extract each set first, then combine the pieces with Merge PDF, which lets you set the order before saving. The merging guide covers that in more detail. If an extracted page is sideways, fix it with Rotate PDF; this guide explains how to make the rotation stick.
Using your computer's print dialog instead
On a Mac, Preview can save a page range through File, then Print, then Save as PDF. On Windows, printing a page range to Microsoft Print to PDF does the same. Both work, but they redraw the page through a printer driver, which can drop links, flatten text into images and add margins.
Extracting pages with a PDF tool copies the original pages unchanged, so text stays selectable, images keep their quality and the page size is exactly the same as before.
Sending the page by email or upload form
A single extracted page is usually small, but a scanned page can still be several MB. If it is too large for an upload form, run it through Compress PDF; the 100 KB guide has tips for strict limits.
Frequently asked questions
Does extracting pages change my original PDF?
No. The original stays exactly as it was. You download a new file containing the pages you picked.
Can I save every page of a PDF as a separate file?
Yes. Use the split every N pages mode with N set to 1. All the pages are downloaded together in a ZIP file.
Are form fields kept?
Page content, text and images are copied as they are. Interactive form fields may not carry over to the new file, so fill in any forms before extracting pages.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 100 MB work. Processing happens on your own device, so very large documents depend on its memory.
Can I extract pages on my phone?
Yes. Split PDF works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. Pick the file from your Files app when the upload dialog opens, and the new PDF downloads straight to your phone.
