How to remove duplicate lines from a list
Merged mailing lists, exported keywords, log files and copied spreadsheet columns are full of repeats. Remove Duplicate Lines keeps the first occurrence of each line and drops the rest, so you get a clean list of unique entries in seconds.
Options that change what counts as a duplicate
Decide how strict the comparison should be:
- Case sensitive on: Apple and apple are kept as different lines. Turn it off to treat them as the same.
- Trim whitespace: leading and trailing spaces are ignored, so " hello " matches "hello".
- Sort: A to Z, Z to A, or none to keep the original order.
Common uses
Cleaning email lists before an import, deduplicating keyword research, finding unique values in a column pasted from Excel or Google Sheets, and tidying lists of URLs or file names. Tip: for email addresses, turn case sensitivity off, since email addresses are not case sensitive in practice.
Private
Lists often contain personal data such as emails and names. Deduplication runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded. For more complex clean-ups, combine it with Find & Replace.
How it compares lines
Each line is compared as a whole, so two lines that differ by a single character or a trailing comma are kept as separate entries. Turn on Trim Whitespace to catch accidental spaces, and turn off Case Sensitive to catch the same entry typed with different capitalization.
