Drop the document you want to number. It stays on your device.

  2. Choose style and position

  3. Download

Get the numbered PDF. The original content is untouched underneath the numbers.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

Page numbers make long documents easy to navigate, cite and print. Theses, legal bundles, manuals and board packs often need them, and adding them after exporting is simpler than fixing every source file. Drible stamps page numbers onto your PDF in the browser.

Formats and positions

Match the numbering to your document style:

  • Formats: plain number (1), "Page 1", "1 of N" with the total page count, or "- 1 -" with dashes.
  • Positions: top left, top center, top right, bottom left, bottom center or bottom right.
  • Starting number: begin at any number, useful when the PDF continues from another document or has a cover page.
  • Font size and margin from the page edge.

Does it change my PDF?

Numbers are drawn as a small text layer on top of each page. The existing content is not re-encoded, so quality is unchanged and the numbers themselves are real, selectable text.

Tips

Bottom center is the most common choice for reports and books; bottom right suits legal documents. If your file has a cover you do not want numbered, split it off with Split PDF, number the rest starting from 1, then merge the cover back with Merge PDF.
