How to add a watermark to a PDF

A watermark tells readers a document's status or owner at a glance: DRAFT on a proposal, CONFIDENTIAL on internal figures, SAMPLE on a portfolio piece, or your name on work you share. Drible adds text watermarks to every page of a PDF without uploading it.

Customizing the look

Set the text, font size, color, opacity and rotation angle. A single centered watermark is subtle and professional; the tiled pattern repeats the text across the whole page and is much harder to crop out of a screenshot. Low opacity (around 15 to 30 percent) keeps the content readable.

What a watermark can and cannot do

A visible watermark discourages casual copying and makes the document's status obvious, but it is drawn on top of the page and could be removed with editing software. For real access control, combine it with Protect PDF to require a password to open the file.

Good to know

The same watermark is applied to all pages. Text watermarks are supported; image logos are not yet. Your original file is untouched, and you download a new copy.

Popular watermark wording

DRAFT and FOR REVIEW signal that a document is not final. CONFIDENTIAL or INTERNAL marks sensitive material. SAMPLE or PREVIEW protects work you share before payment. A name or company plus a date makes it easy to trace which copy was forwarded, which is often enough to discourage leaks.
