How to convert a Word document to PDF

A PDF looks identical on every phone, computer and printer, while a Word file can reflow depending on fonts and software versions. That is why CVs, invoices, assignments and contracts are usually sent as PDFs. Drible converts DOCX and DOC files to PDF with LibreOffice.

Fonts and layout

Standard fonts such as Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman and Georgia convert faithfully. Unusual or custom fonts that are not available on our server may be substituted with a close match, which can shift line breaks slightly. If exact typography matters, stick to common fonts or embed fonts when saving from Word.

DOCX or DOC

Both formats work. DOCX, the modern format used by Word since 2007, generally produces the most accurate result. Images, tables, headers, footers and page numbers are kept.

Your privacy

The file is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted, and deleted as soon as the result is sent back to you. A cleanup job also removes anything older than 30 minutes, so nothing lingers if a conversion is interrupted.
