How to use PDF to Excel

  1. Upload your PDF

Drop a PDF with tables, up to 20 MB. It is sent over HTTPS to our converter.

  2. Tables are extracted

Every table found is placed into its own worksheet, with each value in its own cell.

  3. Download the XLSX

Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. The uploaded file is deleted right away.

How to convert PDF tables to Excel

Retyping figures from a PDF bank statement, price list or report into a spreadsheet is slow and error-prone. PDF to Excel detects the tables in your PDF and writes them into an XLSX file, so you can sort, filter, total and chart the data straight away.

How the conversion works

Each page is scanned for tables using pdfplumber, an open-source table extraction library. Every table it finds becomes its own worksheet, named after its page, with rows and columns preserved. If a PDF has no detectable tables, its text is placed on a single sheet instead so you still get the content.

Getting the best results

Table extraction works best on clean, digitally created PDFs:

  • Tables with ruled lines or clear column alignment convert most accurately.
  • Scanned statements are images and contain no text layer, so they cannot be extracted as cells.
  • After converting, check that numbers were read as numbers (not text) before doing calculations.

Your privacy

The file is sent over HTTPS to our server, converted, and deleted as soon as the result is sent back to you. A cleanup job also removes anything older than 30 minutes, so nothing lingers if a conversion is interrupted.
